JBM Green Energy Systems has announced its orderbook has reached 3 GWh capacity for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects to be deployed across India. The company, which operates as the lithium-ion battery division of JBM Auto Ltd., will deploy 1 GWh of storage capacity for SJVN Ltd., a state-owned power generation company, along with projects for other customers.
The orderbook growth comes as India accelerates its renewable energy transition. Battery energy storage systems play a role in grid stability by enabling time-shifting of energy, frequency regulation, and peak shaving—functions that support the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid.
JBM Green Energy Systems operates what it describes as India's largest high-voltage lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility, located in the Delhi-NCR region. The facility has an annual production capacity of 6 GWh and serves both electric vehicle and energy storage applications.
The company's battery storage systems are designed for grid integration and offer functions including fast response times and compatibility with solar energy installations. These systems support India's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, a target that requires substantial energy storage infrastructure to manage the intermittent nature of renewable sources.
Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JBM Auto Ltd., noted the connection between the company's electric vehicle battery experience and utility-scale storage applications. He emphasized the company's five-year development of battery and storage technologies in India.
JBM Green Energy Systems provides battery solutions across multiple sectors, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and various battery storage applications ranging from mini-grids to large-scale installations. The company handles design, manufacturing, sales, and after-sales services for its battery systems.
The expansion into utility-scale storage represents a broadening of JBM's focus beyond electric vehicle batteries. As India's renewable energy sector grows, demand for battery storage systems is expected to increase to support grid reliability and enable higher penetration of solar and wind power.
