Jaguar Type 01 Debuts As 1,030PS Electric GT, Production Set For 2027
Jaguar’s new four-door electric GT uses a dedicated JEA platform, delivers up to 1,030PS and 400 miles of claimed EPA range, with UK production set to begin in 2027.
Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a four-door electric GT that becomes the first production model from the brand to use its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The model was revealed in New York on October 6 and is scheduled to enter production in the UK in 2027.
The Type 01 uses an 850-volt electrical architecture and a 118kWh usable battery. Jaguar says the model will have an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, while its sustained highway-speed range is rated at up to 320 miles. With a 350kW DC charger, the company says up to 200 miles of range can be added in 13 minutes.
The electric GT is powered by a tri-motor setup with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, producing up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm. Jaguar claims a 0-62mph (0-100kph) time of 3.2 seconds, while 62-112mph (100-180kph) takes 4.0 seconds.
Jaguar Type 01 Gets Dedicated JEA Platform
The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar developed on the dedicated JEA platform. According to Jaguar, the architecture was developed specifically to accommodate the proportions and dynamics of the four-door GT. The model has a 50:50 weight distribution and uses a body architecture developed around its electric powertrain.
Jaguar says the Type 01 has more than 360 patent applications associated with its engineering. Its aerodynamic development includes active vanes, a three-stage deployable spoiler and airflow optimisation, resulting in a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23.
The car has a low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang and extended rear overhang, with 23-inch wheels. The cabin is divided into four individual spaces by a central spine running through its length.
Jaguar Type 01 Production To Begin In 2027
Production of the Type 01 is scheduled to begin at JLR's Solihull facility in 2027. Electric drive units and battery packs will be manufactured in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will be produced at Halewood in Merseyside. JLR says work on the production lines is already at an advanced stage.
JLR says nearly 9,000 employees at its Solihull site have been retrained to build electric vehicles, with another 1,500 employees trained across its wider West Midlands operations.
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year.
Jaguar Type 01 Interior And Technology
The Type 01 gets a 24-inch single-glass OLED driver display and a separate seven-inch touchscreen positioned between the driver and front passenger. The larger display operates Jaguar's new infotainment system, while the smaller screen handles commonly used functions.
The cabin also features a full-width Panoramic Soundbar with Jaguar's Immersive Sound System and Sensory Audio seats.
The Type 01 is designed, engineered and manufactured in Britain and is positioned as the first model in a new generation of all-electric Jaguars. Its name refers to Jaguar's earlier Type models, with "0" representing zero tailpipe emissions and "1" indicating the first model of the new generation.
