Jaguar announced on May 13 that its new luxury four door grand tourer will be named the Type 01. The moniker combines the historic naming convention of the brand with numbers denoting its zero emission electric powertrain and its position as the first vehicle of a new generation.
The vehicle will be designed, developed, and built in the United Kingdom. The model utilizes an innovative new body architecture and is equipped with a tri-motor electric powertrain. This mechanical setup is engineered to produce more than 1,000 metric horsepower and over 1,300 Newton meters of torque.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, stated that the zero in the model name signifies a complete reset for the brand. The automaker intends to fully reveal the Type 01 later this year. The technological integrations and design elements introduced in this vehicle are slated to form the foundation for future models in the manufacturer's lineup.
Jaguar has been owned by Tata Motors since 2008, operating globally as part of its Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) subsidiary. The Type 01 is in line with the company's audacious EV-only rebrand announced in 2024.
