Infosys and ExxonMobil announced on Wednesday an expanded collaboration to develop and scale immersion cooling systems for AI and high-performance computing infrastructure, marking a fresh attempt by two industrial-scale operators to address the mounting energy demands of data centers.
Under the agreement, Infosys will integrate ExxonMobil's Data Center Immersion Fluids — synthetic cooling liquids designed to submerge server hardware and draw heat away more efficiently than conventional air-cooling — with its own AI platform, Infosys Topaz, and cloud services suite, Infosys Cobalt. The companies said the combined approach is intended to lower operational energy costs and reduce carbon emissions at scale.
Immersion cooling, which submerges computing hardware in thermally conductive but electrically non-conductive fluid, has emerged as a leading candidate for managing the extreme heat loads generated by modern AI accelerators and graphics processing units. Unlike traditional air-cooled facilities, immersion systems can recover and reuse heat, offering potential reductions in power usage effectiveness — a key metric for data center efficiency.
Ashiss Kumar Dash, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Services at Infosys, framed the deal as a response to what he called an "urgent need" for more efficient digital infrastructure. "This collaboration has the potential to deliver measurable outcomes by reducing data center energy costs and carbon emissions, while empowering enterprises to scale responsibly," Dash said in a statement.
Alistair Westwood, Global Marketing Manager at ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company, said the partnership allows ExxonMobil to apply its thermal management expertise to a rapidly evolving sector. "Infosys' suite of AI and digital services is enabling us to pilot and adopt infrastructure that is smarter, efficient, and more resilient," he said.
The initiative targets hyperscalers, large global enterprises, and public sector organizations. Infosys identified financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, and government as the primary industry verticals it expects to serve through the collaboration.
The announcement arrives as global data center operators face increasing scrutiny over electricity consumption. The rapid buildout of AI infrastructure — driven by the proliferation of large language models and real-time inference workloads — has pushed power demand at major facilities to levels that utility grids and traditional cooling architectures were not designed to sustain.
Infosys, which employs more than 330,000 people and serves clients in 63 countries, is listed on the NSE, BSE, and NYSE under the ticker INFY. ExxonMobil's product solutions division has been expanding its portfolio of specialty fluids for industrial applications, including data center cooling, amid broader efforts to diversify its chemical and lubricants business.
