Indofast Energy has entered into a partnership with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to establish 23 battery-swapping stations along the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor, the companies announced on January 13, 2026.
The battery-swapping stations will be located at eight stations on the Aqua Line 3 route: Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. The infrastructure will serve electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small commercial vehicles.
The partnership targets delivery partners, ride-sharing drivers, and commuters who use the north-south metro corridor and require electric vehicle access for short-distance trips after exiting metro stations.
Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, said the collaboration integrates battery swapping infrastructure with the metro network to address last-mile connectivity needs. R. Ramana, Director (Planning) at MMRCL, stated the stations would support the shift to electric vehicles for short trips while reducing traffic and pollution.
Indofast Energy currently operates 19 swap stations in Mumbai, including a facility at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. The company's stations use automated swapping technology designed to handle multiple vehicle types with a common battery platform.
The partnership expands Indofast Energy's work with vehicle operators including Zypp, Omega Seiki Mobility, Shadowfax, Rapido, and others, as well as infrastructure partners such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Indian Railways, and metro systems in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Indofast Energy operates more than 1,125 swap stations nationwide across 22 cities, processing over 1.4 million battery swaps monthly. The company reports its network has facilitated 43 million battery swaps, supporting electric vehicles that have traveled approximately 1.17 billion kilometers.
Indofast Energy is a joint venture between IndianOil Corporation Limited and SUN Mobility, operating under a Battery-as-a-Service model that allows electric vehicle users to swap batteries rather than wait for charging.
