Indofast Energy commissioned its 1,000th battery swap station on September 10, 2025, at Mumbai's Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Railway station, marking the country's fastest establishment of comprehensive EV charging infrastructure network and the company's entry into India's financial capital.
The milestone represents unprecedented scale in India's electric mobility sector, with the nationwide network spanning 10 states and 22 cities, facilitating over 39 million battery swaps to date for more than 50,000 electric vehicles that have collectively traveled 1.06 billion kilometers.
Delhi NCR leads Indofast Energy's deployment with 332 stations, followed by Bengaluru with 259 stations and Hyderabad with 124 stations. The network has enabled electric vehicles to avoid approximately 55,000 metric tonnes of tailpipe CO₂ emissions while supporting 78,000 livelihoods across the ecosystem.
The infrastructure serves India's rapidly growing gig economy, revolutionizing delivery operations across quick commerce, e-commerce, and food delivery sectors through two-minute battery swap times that allow delivery executives to complete more orders and increase daily earnings.
Speaking at a 100-kilometer 'Swap Parade' in Bengaluru commemorating World EV Day, Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, said, "Setting up 1000 swap stations is not just a milestone to us -- it represents our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, affordable, practical and eco-friendly. Our Battery-as-a-Service model has successfully addressed the real concerns of delivery executives, ride-sharing drivers, and daily commuters by eliminating the twin barriers of range anxiety and charging time. When a driver can swap batteries in less time than it takes to refuel a conventional vehicle, we remove the final hurdle to adoption. As we look ahead, our focus remains on expanding this network to ensure that choosing a swappable battery EV becomes the most convenient and economical decision for everyday Indians."
Indofast Energy has established collaborations with vehicle partners including Zypp, Omega Seiki Mobility, Shadowfax, Triev, Wickedride, Green Drive, Eveez, Hala Mobility, Rapido, Whizz, bluwheelz and Loadshare. Infrastructure partnerships include IOCL, Indian Railways, BESCOM, DTL, BRPL, BYPL, STATIQ, Power Pod, BMRCL, MMRC and HMR.
Two-wheelers lead battery swap utilization, followed by three-wheelers and commercial light vehicles. The network has driven adoption primarily in B2B delivery fleets, with increasing numbers of riders purchasing their own vehicles rather than relying solely on fleet operators.
The company targets deployment of 2,750 swap stations supporting 150,000 vehicles by March 2026. Expansion plans include five new cities—Chennai, Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune, and Agra—while strengthening presence in existing markets including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.
The three-year roadmap envisions 10,000 swapping points across more than 40 Indian cities, positioning electric mobility as the default choice for commercial and personal transportation.
Indofast Energy operates as a 50:50 joint venture between IndianOil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility, implementing a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. The company's current network handles over 1.4 million battery swaps monthly across its 1,000-plus swap stations, supporting two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small four-wheelers with charging times measured in seconds rather than hours.
