India’s two-wheeler market recorded a 21.1 per cent year-on-year expansion in June 2026, with total vehicle registrations rising to 18.26 lakh units. Data compiled by automotive market intelligence firm JATO Dynamics India indicates a substantial volume increase compared to the 15.09 lakh units registered during the same month last year, supported by stable domestic economic conditions and resilient commuter usage.
On a month-on-month basis, retail volumes softened marginally by 1.7 per cent, easing from the 18.58 lakh units tracked in May 2026. JATO analysts categorized this sequential dip as standard seasonal moderation, noting that overall market health remained balanced with a stable dealer inventory pipeline averaging between 37 and 40 days. Geographically, demand was led by urban markets with 10.92 lakh registrations, followed by 4.48 lakh units in rural zones and 2.86 lakh units across major metropolitan cities.
Traditional internal combustion engine platforms continued to dominate the sector, as petrol-powered variants secured an 89.3 per cent volume share. Motorcycles remained the largest overall product category at 59.9 per cent of total registrations, ahead of scooters at 30.4 per cent. At the product level, the Hero Splendor Plus maintained its position as the top-selling model, followed by the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, and Bajaj Pulsar. Concurrently, electric two-wheelers expanded their presence to capture 10.6 per cent of the monthly market, indicating a steady progression in alternative powertrain adoption within urban centers.
Hero MotoCorp retained the largest individual manufacturer share at 26.2 per cent by logging 4.72 lakh vehicle sales, despite facing intensified competitive pressures from rival brands. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India followed closely with a 25.19 per cent market share on 4.52 lakh units, while TVS Motor Company captured 19.99 per cent of registrations with 2.59 lakh units. Rounding out the primary manufacturers, Bajaj Auto secured 10.46 per cent of the market with 1.87 lakh units, and Suzuki registered 1.04 lakh units to claim a 5.83 per cent volume share.
