India’s two-wheeler registrations increased 28.15% year on year to 1.818 million units in July 2026, compared with 1.419 million units in the same month last year, according to JATO data. The data is based on vehicle registrations as of August 1, 2026, with Telangana excluded.
On a month-on-month basis, registrations declined 1.30% from 1.842 million units in June 2026. JATO attributed the year-on-year movement to personal mobility demand, rural consumption and commuter vehicle demand.

Honda led the two-wheeler market in July with a 26.40% share and 449,468 registrations, while its registrations increased 22.98% year on year. Hero recorded 419,452 units, giving it a 24.63% share, despite a 0.21% decline in market share year on year.
TVS recorded 357,808 registrations and held a 21.01% market share. Its share increased 0.95% year on year, the largest gain among the major OEMs listed by JATO. Bajaj accounted for 10.09% of the market with 171,789 registrations, while Suzuki held a 5.74% share with 97,716 units.
Royal Enfield recorded 90,492 registrations, followed by Yamaha at 64,872 units. Among the electric-focused brands in the table, Ather recorded 28,540 registrations, up 60.02% year on year, while Ola recorded 13,085 units, down 29.08%. Ampere recorded 9,592 registrations, up 124.85%.
At the model level, Hero Splendor Plus was the highest-registered two-wheeler in July with 288,599 units. Honda Activa followed with 217,944 units, while TVS Jupiter recorded 122,298 units and Bajaj Pulsar registered 100,190 units.
Motorcycles Account For 56.9% Of July Registrations
Motorcycles accounted for 56.9% of total two-wheeler registrations in July, making them the largest segment. Scooters contributed 32.2%, while electric scooters accounted for 9.5% of total registrations.
Petrol-powered vehicles accounted for 88.7% of registrations, while electric vehicles represented 11.2% of the market. JATO said the figures indicate that petrol vehicles continued to account for the majority of registrations, alongside an increase in EV adoption.
Uttar Pradesh Remains Largest Two-Wheeler Market
Delhi recorded the highest city-level registrations in July at approximately 50,600 units, followed by Bengaluru at 47,800 units, Chennai at 39,200 units, Hyderabad at 35,600 units and Pune at 29,400 units.
At the state level, Uttar Pradesh was the largest market with approximately 199,400 registrations. Maharashtra followed with 185,000 units, while Tamil Nadu recorded 184,900 units.
Urban markets accounted for 1.061 million registrations, while rural markets contributed 435,900 units. Metro cities recorded 321,000 registrations, with JATO linking the classification to scooter and EV penetration.
Two-wheeler inventory levels stood at approximately 37-40 days in July, according to JATO. The company said dealers maintained stock levels in line with retail demand, with no significant indications of inventory buildup or channel stress.
