iMerit opens Automotive AI Center of Excellence in Coimbatore

iMerit, a leader in AI data solutions, has inaugurated its Automotive AI Center of Excellence in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The center is part of iMerit’s broader expansion efforts and marks its 12th location globally. The initiative is aligned with the growing significance of AI in the automotive sector, projected to reach a global market size of $7.5 billion by 2028, according to a Nasscom report.

The new center was inaugurated by Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Information Technology and Digital Services, in the presence of iMerit employees, guests, and senior executives. iMerit has already recruited over 220 employees in Coimbatore, with plans to double this workforce by 2025. The company focuses on providing AI data solutions for industries such as autonomous mobility, healthcare, and technology, supported by its proprietary Ango Hub software.

Dr. Thiagarajan emphasized the significance of the development, highlighting its potential to drive industry transformation while promoting inclusive growth and skill development. He noted that the workforce includes 52% women, many of whom are sole earners in their families, reflecting a commitment to social equity and empowerment.

Radha Ramaswami Basu, CEO and founder of iMerit, stated that the Coimbatore center would bolster the company’s largest vertical—automotive AI—which accounts for 60% of its revenue. She added that the center will focus on advanced solutions for autonomous mobility, including trucking, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and drones.

The Coimbatore center also benefits from the region’s talent pool, known for its strong educational and technical expertise. Anupam Biswas, Chief Delivery Officer at iMerit, highlighted the center’s rapid development, noting that over 220 multisensor fusion experts have already been hired and trained to work on critical customer projects using Ango Hub software.

The global AI data management market, estimated at $25.53 billion in 2023, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.7% through 2030. iMerit aims to leverage this growth by expanding its operations and contributing to advancements in AI data management, particularly in the automotive sector.

With Coimbatore ranking as one of India’s most livable cities and a safe environment for women, the center is poised to attract and retain skilled talent. iMerit’s focus on ethical AI practices and its commitment to quality data solutions positions it to support the Indian automotive industry as it embraces the growing potential of AI-driven innovations.
