IIT Bombay launches e-mobility e-postgraduate diploma in partnership with Great Learning

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched of an e-Postgraduate Diploma in E-Mobility, an 18-month program aimed at addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The program is set to begin in March 2025 and will be delivered in collaboration with EdTech company Great Learning.

The curriculum has been designed by IIT Bombay faculty, with a focus on bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive, live sessions covering topics such as electric vehicle design, battery technology, electrical drives, and power electronics. The program also includes practical projects, such as modeling EV sub-systems, developing embedded controllers for electric motors, and simulating power electronic systems. The program will conclude with an on-campus graduation ceremony, conferring alumni status to participants.

At the launch event, Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it aligns with the institute's mission to promote experiential learning in innovative fields. The program is tailored for professionals in engineering, R&D, academia, and entrepreneurship, as well as recent graduates. Eligibility criteria include a B.E./B.Tech or equivalent degree, with opportunities open to postgraduate degree holders as well.

The electric vehicle industry in India has seen rapid growth, driven by government initiatives and an increasing focus on sustainability. Programs like this aim to prepare professionals to meet industry demands and contribute to the sector's expansion. Mohan Lakhamraju, CEO of Great Learning, highlighted the potential of this program to equip individuals with the skills required for emerging opportunities in the EV sector.

This initiative represents IIT Bombay's efforts to advance electric vehicle education and skill development, reinforcing its role as a leading institution in the technological education space.
