Hyundai Teases Smallest Ioniq Model
Hyundai will preview an all-electric future city hatchback in concept form at the upcoming Munich Motor show.
Hyundai has released the first teaser images of an upcoming EV concept set to debut at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich on September 9, 2025. While details remain scarce, this concept car will transform into an IONIQ production model to be launched in the first half of 2026, initially in Europe.
The first set of teasers reveal a compact hatchback silhouette with design cues inspired by the recently updated Ioniq 6 sedan, including full-width LED lighting signatures at the front and rear. A chunky fastback profile, an integrated ducktail spoiler, flared fenders, and sporty bumper intakes hint at a urban-focused design aimed at youth. Hyundai says it will release two more teaser sets ahead of the world premiere.
In production form, we expect the model to slot in as the smallest member of the Ioniq family, positioned above the recently introduced Inster EV and offering a zero-emission alternative to the popular i20 and the India-bound Bayon small SUV.
Underpinning the upcoming electric hatchback will likely be Hyundai’s E-GMP modular platform, shared with the upcoming Kia EV2 and EV3. Power could come from a single 201 hp motor paired with a 58.3 kWh battery, giving it the range and performance to compete in the fast-growing small EV segment, primarily in Europe.
When it goes on sale in the first half of 2026, the baby Ioniq will take on the likes of the Renault 5 E-Tech, Nissan Micra EV, Peugeot e-208, Opel Corsa Electric, Citroën e-C3, and BYD Dolphin in the European market.
The concept will make its world debut at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, which starts on September 9 2025.
