Hyundai Reveals Bayon Safety Features Ahead of 26 October Launch
The Bayon is built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, comes with six airbags as standard and offers 23 ADAS functions.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Wednesday revealed the safety features of its upcoming Intelligent Utility Vehicle, the Hyundai Bayon, at Gurugram, ahead of its India launch on 26 October 2026. The company said the vehicle is engineered for 5-Star Indian safety standards, based on an internal assessment.
The Bayon is built on the Global K Enhanced Platform. HMIL said it offers more than 80 advanced safety features, of which more than 35 are standard across all variants. Standard features include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist Control, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX, a Roll Over Sensor and Rear Parking Sensors.
HMIL’s Managing Director and CEO, Tarun Garg, said: “At Hyundai, we believe that true innovation is meaningful only when it enhances the everyday experiences of our customers. With the Hyundai BAYON, we have combined a robust body structure, advanced safety technologies, and intelligent driver assistance systems to deliver a comprehensive safety experience. From its reinforced chassis and high-strength steel construction to Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS, the BAYON is engineered to inspire confidence not only in challenging situations, but throughout every journey. This reflects our commitment to delivering intelligent mobility solutions that are safe, connected, and progressive for modern India.”
Body Structure
The body structure uses 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel, combining Hot Stamping (HS), Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS), Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) and High Strength Steel (HSS). Hot-stamped components are used in the front apron, dashboard, rear floor and side reinforcements.
Hot-stamped rear-floor side members are meant to improve rear-impact protection. The company said the dual-box construction, multiple load paths and ring-type structure distribute impact energy and reduce the risk of cabin intrusion.
ADAS
The Bayon gets Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro ADAS, which has 23 functions, three radars and 12 parking sensors. The functions include:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist for cars, pedestrians, cyclists, junction turning and direct oncoming traffic
- Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning
- Driver Attention Warning
- Safe Exit Warning
- Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning and Collision-Avoidance Assist
- Surround View Monitor and Blind-spot View Monitor
- Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Lane Following Assist
- High Beam Assist
- Leading Vehicle Departure Alert
- Highway Driving Assist
- Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control for zones and curves
Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control works only on designated expressways in map data. HMIL said ADAS functionality depends on multiple conditions, is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving, and may vary by variant.
Powertrain
The Bayon is powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine that produces 84.4 kW (115 PS) and 143.8 Nm (14.7 kgm). It is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
It comes in 10 exterior colours:
- Monotone: Titanium Black, Classy Blue, Atlas White, Fiery Red, Golden Bronze and Ecotronic Grey
- Dual-tone: Atlas White with Black Roof and Fiery Red with Black Roof
- Matte: Titanium Black Matte and Classy Blue Matte
Bookings are open online for INR 11,000. HMIL said the delivery timeline will be announced at launch, which it expects this festive season.
