Hyundai Motor India is making a massive pivot in its product strategy with plans to introduce eight hybrid models by the end of the decade.

Having previously focused on pure internal combustion (ICE), CNG, and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), the automaker is now placing a significant bet on the hybrid segment, aiming for these models to account for 16% of its total product mix.

The eight hybrid models are part of the 26 launches that the company is planning by 2029-30, which include derivatives & facelifts. According to an investor presentation, the South Korean automaker is eying 52% “eco-friendly” product mix by the end of this decade.

Hyundai’s aggressive push for hybrid powertrain comes as the government recently came out with a revised draft for the third iteration of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) norms that proposes to make average CO2 emissions more stringent. The proposal seeks to give a big push to hybrids as well, apart from EVs.

This will increase its current count of 14 nameplates to 18 by 2030, with 13 Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models, five Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), and six CNG models.

Currently, Hyundai India offers a lineup spanning multiple segments. The portfolio includes popular hatchbacks like the Grand i10 Nios and i20, catering to urban buyers.

In the compact SUV space, the Venue and Exter cater to the mainstream and value segments, while the Creta remains a bestseller in the mid-size SUV category, known for its premium appeal and value proposition.

The Alcazar serves families needing three-row seating, and the Tucson targets premium SUV buyers with sophisticated styling and advanced features.

Hyundai's sedan range includes the Aura compact sedan and the Verna.
