Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced plans to install nearly 600 public fast EV charging stations across India within the next seven years. By the end of 2024, HMIL's DC fast charging network will include over 50 stations, strategically located across highways, cities, and dealerships.
The company's existing charging infrastructure has already facilitated approximately 50,000 charging sessions, providing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 EV users from both Hyundai and other brands.
HMIL's charging initiative is supported by its myHyundai app, which collaborates with service providers like ChargeZone, Statiq, and Shell India. This partnership enables access to more than 10,000 EV charging points nationwide, allowing seamless travel across India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
The company's Function Head – Corporate Planning, Jae Wan Ryu, highlighted that customer apprehension about the lack of highway charging facilities often limits long-distance EV travel. To address this, HMIL aims to enhance its EV infrastructure by leveraging Hyundai Motor Corporation's global EV and battery technology.
As part of its regional efforts, HMIL signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 EV charging stations in the state by 2027. Of these, 10 stations will be operational by the end of 2024. Three charging stations are already functional in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai, with the remaining set to open soon.
These charging stations are designed to cater to all four-wheeled EVs manufactured in India. The facilities are strategically placed in locations like shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants, offering services such as 24x7 CCTV surveillance and on-site assistance.
The company has strategically expanded its network to cover key routes, including highways such as Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur. Major cities like Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai also host HMIL's charging stations.
The stations feature advanced configurations, including DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW chargers, supporting varied EV charging needs. To date, HMIL has sold over 4,061 EVs, including models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai KONA.
This initiative reflects HMIL's effort to support India's shift towards electric mobility and expand access to reliable charging infrastructure.
