Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded 6.3% year-on-year growth in domestic sales in March 2026, selling 55,064 units in the home market. Total monthly sales, including 13,940 exports, reached 69,004 units — a 2.5% increase compared to March 2025.

Domestic sales grew 6.3% compared to March 2025, when HMIL had recorded 51,820 units in the home market and 15,500 in exports for a total of 67,320 units. The narrower growth in total sales relative to the domestic figure reflects a year-on-year decline in export volumes from 15,500 units in March 2025 to 13,940 units in March 2026.

Commenting on the results, Tarun Garg, MD & CEO of HMIL, said, "Continuing the momentum gained in 2026, we have achieved highest-ever quarterly domestic sales of 1,66,578 units in Q4 FY2025-26. We remain confident of sustaining the pace with upcoming product interventions like our recently upgraded Hyundai VERNA and EXTER. While we stay mindful of the prevailing geopolitical uncertainties, Hyundai Motor India Limited is well-prepared for a strong FY2026–27, delivering aspirational, connected and innovative products, along with unmatched customer experience and pride of ownership."

What drove the March numbers

March 2026's domestic record follows a pattern established earlier in the year. In February 2026, HMIL posted its highest-ever February domestic sales at 52,407 units, up 9.8% year-on-year, with total volumes of 66,134 units rising 12.6%. January 2026 had similarly set a monthly record at the time. The three consecutive months of domestic records point to sustained demand rather than a single-month aberration.

Product interventions have been a key factor. The recently upgraded Verna and Exter were cited by management as drivers of near-term momentum. This mirrors the role played in FY2024-25 by the Creta Electric — HMIL's first indigenously developed EV — and the new Alcazar, both of which expanded the company's SUV portfolio into new buyer segments. SUVs accounted for 68.5% of HMIL's domestic sales in FY2024-25, with the Creta alone selling 52,898 units in the January–March 2025 quarter to become India's top-selling SUV in that period.

The export dip in March 2026, from 15,500 to 13,940 units, is a counter-trend to February's export performance, when overseas shipments surged 24.8% year-on-year to 13,727 units. Management has flagged geopolitical uncertainties as a variable, suggesting export volatility may persist into FY2026-27.

In the financial year ended March 2025, HMIL reported total sales of 7,62,052 units, comprising domestic sales of 5,98,666 units and exports of 1,63,386 units. The company retained its position as India's second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer and its largest passenger vehicle exporter on a cumulative basis.

SUVs drove the domestic performance, accounting for 68.5% of volumes for the year. During FY25, HMIL crossed two cumulative milestones — 2.5 million SUV sales and 1.5 million Creta sales since inception, counting both domestic and export figures.

The March 2026 domestic record, set on a base that was itself a year-on-year improvement, positions HMIL to surpass its FY25 domestic tally if the current trajectory holds through FY2026-27.
