After introducing its own dual-cylinder CNG setup in the Exter, Hyundai India has now brought out its Grand i10 Nios hatchback with the same layout. The Hyundai Nios CNG dual-cylinder version is available in the two mid-spec variants, and is priced between Rs 7.75 lakh-8.30 lakh. This setup is said to liberate more room in the Nios’ boot.

Considering these new variants’ prices, the dual-cylinder CNG Nios costs exactly Rs 7,000 more than the single-cylinder CNG versions (which will continue to be on sale) and about Rs 97,000 more than the equivalent petrol variants. Hyundai offers a CNG kit with the two mid-spec trims – Magna and Sportz – and the same level of equipment and safety kit is shared between the petrol and CNG models.

The 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine produces 69hp and 95Nm of torque when run on CNG, and 83hp and 114Nm on petrol. Hyundai only offers a 5-speed manual with the Nios CNG, while the petrol variants get a 5-speed AMT option as well.

The Tata Tiago is the only other model in its class to get a dual cylinder CNG setup, with the manual variants priced between Rs 6.60 lakh and Rs 8.35 lakh. However, Tata’s small CNG hatchback also gets a 5-speed AMT gearbox option, priced between Rs 7.90-8.90 lakh. Other rivals to the Nios CNG are Maruti’s CNG-powered Wagon R (Rs 6.45-6.80 lakh) and Celerio (Rs 6.74 lakh).
