Hyundai Motor India Ltd. announced that its CRETA model became the highest-selling passenger vehicle across all segments in India from January to July 2025, recording sales of 1,17,458 units with an 8% year-on-year growth compared to the same period in 2024.

The mid-size SUV category has expanded over the past ten years. Consumer demand has shifted from sedans and hatchbacks to SUVs due to factors like ground clearance, interior space, and additional features. Growth is linked to higher disposable income, wider financing options, and improved road infrastructure. As of 2025, the segment makes up a large portion of passenger vehicle sales. Manufacturers are increasing local production and incorporating new technologies to meet demand.

Automakers have launched multiple SUV models with varied powertrain and safety options. Hyundai CRETA remains a strong performer in the mid-size SUV category, competing with Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Skoda Kushaq. Companies are expanding variant portfolios, working on customer retention, and preparing platforms for future electric vehicle integration. The market reflects changes in consumer preferences around fuel efficiency, connectivity, and vehicle size.

"As we celebrate a decade of the Hyundai CRETA, we are truly humbled by the unwavering love and trust of our customers. Becoming India's best-selling car across all segments in the January – July 2025 period is not just a sales milestone, it reflects the emotional connect CRETA has built over the years. As we move ahead, our commitment remains steadfast to continuously raising the bar as well as customer experience," said Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

The company positioned CRETA as synonymous with power, style and aspiration, noting that the model has retained its status as the most preferred SUV in India despite intensifying market competition.
