Honda plans 500 battery-swapping stations in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai by 2026
The Japanese automaker’s battery-swapping services subsidiary plans to set up 250 swapping stations in Bangalore, 150 in Delhi and 100 in Mumbai.
Following the launch of Activa E, Honda Motor plans to set up 500 battery-swapping stations across Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai by March 2026 through its battery-swapping service subsidiary Honda Power Pack Energy India Pvt Ltd (HEID).
Honda will start its battery swapping service, Honda e:Swap, for ACTIVA E in Bengaluru from February 2025 and in New Delhi and Mumbai from April 2025 onwards.
“HEID would focus on three actions, which are continuously expanding its battery swap network, ensuring reliable service with a highly integrated system monitoring every unique battery and exchanger, and supporting customers to ensure superior battery swap experience,” HEID President and CMD Takuya Taniguchi said.
On Wednesday, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) two electric scooters – Activa E and QC1. It targets to cover 50% of the domestic electric two-wheeler market within one year. Activa E comes with swappable batteries, while QC1 has a fixed battery.
The use of battery service is expected to significantly reduce the initial cost of the electric scooter as HEID owns the battery, and the company believes battery swapping will reduce concerns related to range anxiety.
HMSI is adopting a phased rollout strategy for Activa E in the three metro cities in the initial stage.
For swapping Activa E batteries, users can access the HEID battery swap stations by registering for membership on its mobile App while purchasing the two-wheeler.
The battery swapping services company plans to set up 250 swapping stations in Bangalore, 150 in Delhi and 100 in Mumbai by March 2026.
HEID started battery swapping services in November 2021 with electric auto rickshaws. “HEID’s battery swap service enables its users to swap their discharged batteries (Honda Mobile Power Pack e:) with fully charged ones at their nearest battery swapping stations,” the company noted.
