We have been eagerly waiting for a Honda electric scooter to launch in India but that project has seen some delays. However, the company’s CEO, Tsutsumu Otani has now confirmed that Honda’s electric scooter will be launched in March 2025.

Some months ago, we reported that Honda has set up an exclusive production line at its Karnataka plant for electric two-wheelers. Production of the Honda e-scooter for India is slated to begin in December 2024, ahead of its March 2025 launch.

Very little is known about the Honda electric scooter, including its name, which the internet speculates will be called the Activa electric. Capitalising on the humongous market share of the Activa will be Honda’s intention but whether it does so in such an outright manner remains to be seen.

There are also no details available on the powertrain front for the Honda e-scooter. Currently, only the Vida V1 duo offer removable batteries, with every other mainstream Indian e-scooter coming with a fixed battery pack. Honda already has a small network of battery-swapping stations functional in select metro cities so it remains to be seen what route the manufacturer goes down.

At a press conference last year, Honda revealed that it was working on two electric scooters for India, one with a fixed battery pack and the other with a swappable one. It remains to be seen which product reaches the market first and when the other one will follow.
