Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) registered total sales of 8,159 units in December 2025, comprising 5,807 units in domestic sales and 2,352 units in exports.
The domestic sales figure represents a 3.6% increase compared to December 2024, when the company sold 5,603 units in the Indian market. However, export volumes declined from 3,857 units in December 2024 to 2,352 units in the same month this year, a drop of approximately 39%, resulting in lower overall sales year-on-year.
Kunal Behl, Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Honda Cars India Ltd., attributed the domestic sales performance to continued momentum following the GST 2.0 implementation. "Demand remained robust across all models Honda Amaze, City and Elevate, with each contributing strongly to overall performance," Behl said.
The GST 2.0 framework, which introduced tax rationalization measures for the automotive sector, has been credited by several manufacturers for improving consumer sentiment and purchase decisions in recent months.
Honda's current lineup in India consists of three main models. The Amaze is positioned in the compact sedan segment, the City competes in the midsize sedan category, and the Elevate represents the company's entry in the growing SUV market. The company indicated that it expects to launch multiple products during 2026, though specific details were not disclosed.
The domestic sales growth comes amid a period of recovery for India's automotive sector, which has faced challenges including supply chain constraints, semiconductor shortages, and fluctuating commodity prices in recent years. The premium car segment, where Honda operates, has shown resilience with increasing consumer preference for feature-rich vehicles.
Honda Cars India Ltd., established in December 1995, operates a manufacturing facility in Tapukara, located in Alwar district of Rajasthan, and maintains its corporate office in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The company manufactures passenger vehicles and operates Honda Auto Terrace, a certified pre-owned car business that provides quality-assured used vehicles to customers.
The manufacturer competes in India's premium car segment against established players including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra, among others. The Indian passenger vehicle market has witnessed increasing competition with both domestic and international brands vying for market share across various price segments.
