Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), has announced that the brand has reached a milestone of exporting 200,000 made in India cars and SUVs to overseas markets.
Honda began exports from India with small volumes to neighbouring SAARC countries, South Africa and SADC nations back in 2021 with a first set of 50,000 units. The next 50,000 units of made in India Honda models followed in about two and a half years, with the company expanding to Left-Hand-Drive markets such as the Middle East, Mexico and Turkey, led by the popular Honda City sedan.
The brand has focused more on exports with the latest 100,000 units dispatched in just two years, fuelled by rising demand for the Honda Elevate mid-size SUV in new markets such as Japan which is Honda’s home market, South America and the Caribbean nations.
The Honda City and Honda Elevate have been the biggest growth drivers, together accounting for 78% of export volumes. The remaining 22% comes from models such as the Brio, Amaze, Jazz, BR-V, Mobilio, City e:HEV, Accord, and CR-V.
Speaking on the milestone, Kunal Behl, Vice President, Marketing & Sales, HCIL, said:

It also reflects the dedication of our skilled teams and robust manufacturing capabilities. Exports are an integral part of HCIL’s business and revenue strategy, and we remain committed to strengthening this area going forward. We are dedicated to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, serving both our domestic market and global customers.”
So far, HCIL has exported vehicles to 33 countries. Japan accounts for the largest share at 30%, followed by South Africa and SADC countries at 26%, Mexico at 19% and Turkey at 16%. The balance 9% includes markets in the Middle East, SAARC, Caribbean and South America.
