The Honda 0 α (Alpha) SUV concept has made its global debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, previewing a new entry point into the Japanese carmaker’s all-electric 0 Series of vehicles. Importantly, Honda has confirmed that the production-spec version of this concept will go on sale in India and Japan in 2027, among other global markets. Unlike the larger Honda 0 SUV, which will be imported to India as a CBU next year, the Honda 0 α SUV will be manufactured locally in India.
Positioned below the full-size 0 SUV that was first showcased at CES earlier this year, the 0 α concept shares the same design philosophy that Honda calls “Thin, Light, and Wise.” This approach focuses on reducing weight, improving packaging efficiency, and enhancing intelligence through software and aerodynamics. Despite a much smaller footprint, the India-bound Honda 0 α SUV looks quite similar to the larger Honda 0 SUV, thanks to a very similar stance paired with futuristic surfacing and clean lines.
The SUV features a sharply raked front and rear windscreens, a window line that tapers dramatically towards the rear, and a thick C-pillar along with a roof-mounted spoiler. Up front, the illuminated Honda logo sits within a closed-off grille area that also houses the charging port, flanked by slim headlamps that extend upward and sideways. Lower down, it gets a prominent chin merges into thick body cladding that is seen on all sides. The Honda SUV concept rides on aero-optimised 19-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels housed within muscular wheel arches. At the back, it comes with a full-width U-shaped tail-light bar which is seen on all Honda 0 series models. Additionally, another set of smaller secondary lights are integrated neatly on the rear bumper.
While the cabin and powertrain details remain under wraps, Toshikazu Hirose, Chief Engineer at Honda Motor Co., told Autocar India that the SUV’s wheelbase will range between 2,700mm and 2,800mm, ensuring generous cabin space. He also hinted that the upright tailgate will allow for a roomy luggage area.
Hirose further revealed that the production-spec 0 α SUV will come with two LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery options, chosen specifically for their durability and heat resistance in markets like India. While exact capacities haven’t been confirmed, they are expected to range between 65kWh and 75kWh, which should deliver competitive range figures. The SUV will initially be offered with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup, though dual-motor versions could follow later.
When launched, the Honda 0 α SUV will rival the upcoming Maruti eVitara, Mahindra BE.6, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the Hyundai Creta EV. With an expected price tag of Rs 25 lakh–30 lakh (ex-showroom).
