Hindustan Zinc Signs MoU with Advantek and Aero Eagle to Assess Hydrogen Adoption
Tripartite agreement outlines a phased transition pathway focusing on technical and financial feasibility studies for hydrogen-powered underground mining and heavy equipment.
Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Advantek Associates LLP and Aero Eagle Automobiles Private Limited to study the integration of green hydrogen across its industrial operations. The collaboration will assess the technical and financial feasibility of deploying hydrogen fuel cells and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine technologies within energy-intensive mining environments.
The primary objective of the agreement is to explore clean energy alternatives for high-capacity applications that are traditionally difficult to electrify. The scope of the assessment covers green hydrogen generation, specialized storage, dispensing infrastructure, and the potential deployment of hydrogen-powered heavy earth-moving machinery, surface vehicles, generators, and underground mining equipment.
According to the parameters of the agreement, the project will follow a phased execution model starting with operational, safety, environmental, and financial feasibility studies. Based on the findings of these initial assessments, the companies may scale the initiative into localized pilot projects and broader equipment deployment. The strategy is in line with Hindustan Zinc's long-term target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or sooner, with the company said to be sourcing nearly 18 percent of its operational power from renewable energy mix components.
