Hindustan Zinc Deploys Hybrid-Powered Industrial Crane at Rajasthan Smelter
The deployment of a 250-tonne diesel-electric lifting machine is projected to offset over 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Hindustan Zinc Limited has commissioned a 250-metric-tonne capacity hybrid-powered crane at its Zinc Smelter Debari facility in Rajasthan. The company said that the dual-energy industrial machine, which is engineered to operate on both diesel fuel and electricity, represents the first deployment of a hybrid crane of this capacity configuration within India's industrial sector.
According to a regulatory disclosure filed under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, the equipment rollout is part of the manufacturer's broader operational strategy to lower localized carbon emissions. The technical parameters of the conversion indicate that the hybrid crane will replace a conventional diesel-operated unit that consistently consumed an estimated 93,600 liters of fuel per year. Based on these operational metrics, corporate environmental assessments project that the shift to electric power will avert approximately 250.8 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions on an annual basis.
The lifting machine was developed and supplied in partnership with heavy machinery manufacturing firm SANY India. Deepak Garg, Managing Director of SANY India, stated that the diesel-electric hybrid all-terrain crane was designed specifically to optimize industrial energy efficiency while maintaining necessary structural lifting capacities in demanding heavy-industry environments.
