Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd has announced a strategic technology licensing partnership with Australian battery materials firm Sicona, aimed at localizing and commercializing Sicona’s next-generation SiCx anode technology in India. The move is set to bolster India’s position in the global clean-tech and battery manufacturing ecosystem.
Under the agreement, Himadri will receive exclusive rights to access, adapt, and commercialize Sicona’s proprietary silicon-carbon (SiCx) anode material in the Indian market. This material, which can be blended with traditional graphite in lithium-ion battery anodes, offers up to 20% greater energy density and 40% faster charging capability compared to conventional technologies—key improvements for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
The partnership aligns with global efforts to decentralize battery production and reduce dependence on limited supply chains. It also places India at the forefront of advanced material innovation as countries race to secure next-gen battery technologies.

The collaboration includes comprehensive technical support from Sicona, covering engineering, qualification protocols, and quality systems necessary for local production. Himadri will leverage its experience in scaling precision chemical operations to drive the commercialization phase.
Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd is already a key player in India’s battery materials space, with a diversified portfolio ranging from speciality carbon black to clean power solutions. Sicona, based in Wollongong, Australia, specializes in developing silicon-carbon anode materials that improve lithium-ion battery performance at mass-market scale.
The partnership is seen as a step toward strengthening India’s clean energy supply chain and advancing its ambitions of becoming a hub for sustainable battery technology innovation.
