Advanced driver-assistance hardware once restricted to high-end automobiles is officially making its way onto everyday scooters and motorcycles, signaling a major technology shift across the personal mobility sector.
Leading automotive supplier Sona secured an Rs 100 crore order for rear radar sensors designed specifically for two-wheelers during the second quarter. The safety sensor contract forms part of a broader wave of electric two-wheeler technology wins, which also included an Rs 380 crore order for integrated motor controllers, the company management informed analyst during a post results conference call.
Additionally, the company clinched an Rs 1,250 crore contract for traction motors spanning two existing electric two-wheeler programmes, Nuvama Research stated in its report.
The influx of high-tech two-wheeler contracts reflects a broader surge in electric vehicle demand that is altering the supplier's top line. Sona's battery electric vehicle (BEV) revenues jumped 129% year-over-year in the second quarter, pushing BEV revenue share to 51% of total sales compared to 44% in the previous quarter and 35% in FY26.
Overall revenue for the quarter rose 35% year-over-year to Rs 1,550 crore, surpassing analyst estimates of Rs 1,420 crore by 9%. The strong top-line performance was led primarily by demand in traction and suspension motors alongside differential assembly segments.
As of September 2026, Sona's total order book stood at Rs 25,100 crore, expanding from Rs 24,000 crore reported in June 2026. Electric vehicle components now make up 61% of the company's total order pipeline, while non-EV segments account for 31%, railways represent 5%, and robotics and physical AI comprise 4%
