Hero MotoCorp to Launch a Battery-as-a-Service Model for VIDA VX2 Electric Scooters
Subscription-based model reduces upfront costs and offers flexible monthly payment plans for electric vehicle ownership.
Hero MotoCorp's electric vehicle division VIDA will launch a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model for its VX2 electric scooter starting July 1, 2025, allowing customers to finance the scooter chassis and battery separately through flexible monthly payment plans designed to reduce upfront ownership costs.
The BaaS model enables customers to purchase the scooter chassis while subscribing to battery usage through monthly plans tailored to individual budgets and usage patterns. This approach separates the significant upfront capital expenditure associated with battery costs into manageable monthly payments, making electric vehicle ownership more accessible to a broader customer base.
Under the subscription framework, customers will have access to VIDA's existing infrastructure network, which includes over 3,600 fast-charging stations and more than 500 service points across 100 cities in India. The model allows customers to select from various subscription plans based on their daily or monthly requirements.
The company describes the initiative as part of its strategy to democratize electric mobility by removing conventional ownership barriers. The BaaS model represents a shift from traditional vehicle ownership structures, offering customers the flexibility to manage vehicle and battery costs separately.
Hero MotoCorp positions this launch as aligned with its vision to build a more inclusive electric vehicle ecosystem through the VIDA brand. The subscription-based approach addresses affordability concerns that have historically limited electric vehicle adoption in the Indian two-wheeler market.
Complete details regarding subscription plans, pricing structures, and implementation specifics will be announced on July 1, 2025. The company has not disclosed the exact pricing for the chassis purchase or the monthly subscription rates for battery usage.
