Companies aim to integrate navigation systems with safety features to reduce road fatalities through connected vehicle technology

HERE Technologies, a global digital mapping company, has announced a strategic partnership with Genesys International to develop in-car navigation systems designed to reduce distracted driving in India. The collaboration will combine HERE's mapping technology with Genesys International's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to create integrated safety solutions for Indian vehicles.
The partnership addresses a significant road safety challenge in India, where approximately 80,000 people die in road crashes annually. According to India's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, more than 3,000 of these fatalities are attributed to mobile phone use while driving.
A recent HERE survey of Indian road users found that 98% of respondents expressed concerns about road safety. The survey also revealed that 91% of participants believe ADAS functions are essential for improving road safety conditions.
The companies plan to develop a navigation system that integrates live mapping, real-time traffic updates, road hazard alerts, and ADAS functions within a unified digital cockpit experience. The system will utilize artificial intelligence to provide real-time updates on road conditions, speed limits, traffic patterns, and optimized routes for electric vehicles and charging stations.
Indian automotive manufacturers have begun incorporating digital navigation systems in newer vehicle models, but current solutions have struggled to meet driver expectations. The HERE-Genesys partnership aims to address this gap by combining HERE's customizable navigation software with Genesys International's India-specific ADAS technology.
"There is a clear call from road users in India for more accessible and advanced vehicle safety technologies, including ADAS," said Deon Newman, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific at HERE Technologies. "Our collaboration with Genesys International bridges global expertise and local innovation enabling automakers to integrate intelligent, ADAS-ready solutions."
The partnership supports India's automotive industry shift toward software-defined vehicles and connected driving experiences. As automakers in India work to align with global trends, embedded navigation systems that integrate with vehicle safety and infotainment platforms are becoming standard requirements.
Sajid Malik, Chairman and Managing Director of Genesys International Corporation, described the partnership as a significant step in improving road safety and intelligence. "We are combining our India-specific ADAS map technology with HERE's worldwide navigation platform to assist automakers in offering truly connected, context-aware driving experiences," Malik said.
The companies plan to establish a dedicated mobility innovation center in India, where local teams will collaborate to develop and test solutions targeting challenges faced by Indian drivers. HERE maintains a presence in India with over 3,000 employees across offices in three major cities.
