HARMAN Expands Pune Manufacturing Plant with ₹345 Crore Investment

HARMAN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced a ₹345 crore investment to expand its automotive electronics manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The expansion brings the company's total investment in the plant to ₹554 crores since its establishment in 2014.

The investment is structured in two phases: ₹45 crores for immediate expansion and ₹300 crores over the next three years to support advanced telematics and next-generation automotive connectivity programs. The expansion was inaugurated by HARMAN CEO Christian Sobottka.

The facility expansion adds 71,505 square feet of built-up area, including a 45,000 square foot production shop floor. This represents a capacity increase of over 50 percent, with the addition of four new surface-mount technology lines and new capabilities including module production and speaker manufacturing.

By 2027, the expanded plant is projected to produce four million car audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units, and 800,000 telematics control units annually. The expansion is expected to create 300 new jobs in Pune.

The Pune facility serves as a manufacturing hub for connected car technologies, supplying Indian automotive manufacturers including Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra & Mahindra, as well as export customers in Europe and North America.

New product lines at the facility will include 5G and 4G telematics solutions, including telematics control units for Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki. The plant will also manufacture HARMAN Ready Connect, a pre-developed telematics control unit co-developed with Samsung that features over-the-air updates, cybersecurity, diagnostics, and cloud integration capabilities.

HARMAN's automotive division in India employs approximately 5,000 people with capabilities spanning product management, software and hardware engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

The Pune facility generates over 317,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually through on-site solar installations, mitigating nearly 200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The facility is working toward 100 percent renewable electricity use by 2030 and has maintained a zero OSHA-recordable injury rate since inception.

The expanded Pune facility is part of HARMAN's global manufacturing network that includes locations in China, Hungary, Mexico, Brazil, and Germany.
