Exclusive: VinFast to enter India’s e2W Market with 3 Battery-Swapping Models Sold in Vietnam

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast plans to enter India’s electric two-wheeler market in the financial year 2027 with three battery-swapping scooters that are currently sold in Vietnam, marking the company’s first step into the country’s fast-growing electric scooter segment.

The first set of products to be introduced will include the VinFast Evo, VinFast Feliz II, and VinFast Viper. These models are not developed specifically for India and will be brought in as completely knocked-down (CKD) units initially for local assembly at the company’s plant in Tamil Nadu.

“VinFast plans to introduce battery-swapping models such as the VinFast Evo, VinFast Feliz II, and VinFast Viper, along with additional new models to be launched over time. All products will be tailored to suit local usage conditions and mobility habits in each market,” the company said in response to a query.

VinFast will be able to enter the country’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler market more quickly by bringing its existing global models as CKDs, rather than waiting for products designed only for India. Earlier, the company’s management had said it was working on an India-specific product. The plan is to gradually localise these global models over time.

The company introduced the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper battery-swapping electric scooters in Vietnam earlier this year. The models are designed with two battery compartments under the seat and use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, each with a capacity of 1.5 kWh. Customers in Vietnam can either rent the batteries or purchase the vehicle with batteries included.

With two fully charged batteries, the VinFast Evo can travel up to 165 km under standard conditions, while the Viper and Feliz II can reach up to 156 km. However, the specifications of the models for the Indian market have not yet been disclosed.

The VinFast Viper is powered by a brushless direct current (BLDC) in-hub motor with a maximum output of 3,000 W and a top speed of up to 70 km per hour. The Feliz II is equipped with a similar 3,000 W BLDC in-hub motor, while the Evo features a 2,450 W in-hub motor. Both models support a top speed of up to 70 km per hour.

VinFast said the rollout will be followed by additional launches over time as the company builds its presence in the market. “All products will be tailored to suit local usage conditions and mobility habits of the market,” the company added.

VinFast, which started selling its cars in India last year, is now expanding its product portfolio to include electric two-wheelers and buses as part of its broader strategy to build a presence across vehicle segments in the country.

The entry is expected to intensify competition in India’s electric scooter market, which is currently dominated by domestic manufacturers such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy, and Ola Electric. The automaker currently sells more than six electric scooter models, including Evo, Feliz, Klara, and Vero, across South Asia.

To support its manufacturing plans in India, VinFast has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu for the allocation of approximately 200 hectares of land at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi. The land will be used to expand the company’s existing facilities in the state to manufacture two-wheelers.

“This agreement creates opportunities for VinFast to diversify its product portfolio—from electric cars and electric buses to electric two-wheelers and charging infrastructure—while reaffirming its long-term commitment to the world’s third-largest automotive market,” the company said.
