Exclusive | Nipun Mahajan Joins Audi India as Head of Sales & Network
Veteran automotive executive to strengthen brand’s retail and customer experience strategy amid luxury market revival.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has announced the appointment of Nipun Mahajan as Head of Sales & Network for Audi India, effective August 1, 2025.
In his new role, Mahajan will report to Balbir Singh Dhillon, Brand Director, Audi India.
A seasoned industry leader, Mahajan brings nearly three decades of diverse experience across global automotive brands. He was most recently with Stellantis Malaysia as the ASEAN Regional Sales & Marketing Director, where he led commercial operations across multiple Southeast Asian markets. His earlier assignments include senior roles at Fiat Chrysler, Harley-Davidson, and Honda Cars, as well as stints within the Volkswagen Group at Volkswagen and Porsche.
Leadership Change Amid Market Pressures
This leadership transition comes at a time when Audi India is navigating a crucial recovery phase. After consolidating operations and reshaping its portfolio with a sharper focus on electrification and digitalisation, the brand has been under pressure in the intensely competitive Indian luxury car segment.
Audi India retailed 5,816 units in 2024, a sharp 26.6% drop from 7,931 units in 2023, largely due to prolonged supply chain disruptions. The decline continued into the first half of 2025, with retail sales falling 14% year-on-year to 2,128 units between January and June.
While the broader Indian luxury car market is poised to cross 50,000 units annually, Audi has been losing ground to rivals such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The appointment of Mahajan signals a renewed push by the brand to rebuild momentum.
Strategic Mandate
Dhillon will be banking on Mahajan’s extensive experience in retail transformation, dealer development, and regional growth strategies to help stem the sales slide and regain lost market share. Strengthening dealer partnerships, optimising regional performance, and preparing the retail ecosystem for the next wave of EV adoption and digital transformation will be key parts of Mahajan’s mandate.
