Epsilon Carbon Introduces LNG Tankers to Reduce Supply Chain Emissions

Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a producer of carbon black and specialty carbon products, has deployed eight LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)-powered tanker trucks for the transport of coal tar, its key raw material. The company said the move is aimed at lowering logistics-related emissions and improving supply chain efficiency.

This initiative follows the company’s introduction of electric trucks in 2023 and LNG containers in July 2025 for carbon black logistics. According to Epsilon, the addition of LNG tankers will help reduce Scope 3 emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and cut long-term operating costs.

Compared to diesel vehicles, LNG trucks are expected to lower CO₂ emissions by 20–25%, reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) by up to 90%, and nearly eliminate particulate matter emissions. The tankers also offer a range of about 730 kilometers, enabling long-haul operations.

The company plans to gradually expand the LNG fleet as part of its efforts to build a low-carbon logistics model. Epsilon stated that this strategy aligns with India’s net zero 2070 targets and responds to evolving regulatory requirements and customer expectations.

Established in 2017, Epsilon Carbon operates manufacturing facilities in Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The company produces specialty carbon and carbon black for industries including aluminium, tyres, rubber, chemicals, and pigments, and reports full backward integration in its operations.
