Eicher Trucks and Buses, a business unit of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has partnered with Rosmerta Auto Recycling Pvt. Ltd. (RARPL) to facilitate the authorised scrapping and recycling of end-of-life (ELV) commercial vehicles across the National Capital Region (NCR).
The partnership will provide Eicher Trucks and Buses’ dealers and customers access to a structured vehicle scrapping process through Rosmerta Auto Recycling, a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF). The initiative is aimed at supporting the retirement of ageing commercial vehicles and the recovery of materials from ELVs.
The partnership comes as India’s formal vehicle scrappage ecosystem expands, with more than 4.3 lakh vehicles having been scrapped through RVSFs, according to the companies.
How the Eicher-Rosmerta Scrapping Process Works
Under the partnership, Rosmerta Auto Recycling will support vehicle owners with registration and documentation under the PARIVARTAN scheme, generation of digital Certificates of Deposit (CoDs) through the RVSF ecosystem, vehicle depollution and dismantling, and documentation required under applicable regulations.
The process will also cover the generation and transfer of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) credits from compliant ELV recycling, where applicable, as well as the recovery and processing of metals and other automotive materials.
PARIVARTAN Scheme Benefits for NCR Vehicle Owners
The Vehicle Scrappage Policy provides a framework for RVSFs and Certificates of Deposit to encourage the retirement of old vehicles through authorised channels. Under the PARIVARTAN scheme for the NCT region, transport vehicles purchased against a Certificate of Deposit are eligible for 100% waiver of road tax/MV tax for 10 years, along with loan interest subvention of up to 5% of the interest payable on the replacement vehicle, according to the company.
Kartick V. Nagpal, president, Rosmerta Group, said the partnership is intended to increase adoption of authorised vehicle scrapping among commercial vehicle owners in NCR and facilitate the dismantling and recovery of materials through the formal recycling ecosystem.
S.S. Gill, chief commercial officer, VE Commercial Vehicles, said the initiative would provide Eicher customers with access to a structured scrapping process as they consider vehicle productivity, operating costs, safety and lifecycle costs.
The companies said the partnership would help channel end-of-life commercial vehicles through authorised recycling facilities, where vehicles can be depolluted and dismantled and materials such as steel and aluminium recovered for reuse and recycling.
