Eicher Heavy Duty Bus Sales Plummet 26.7 Percent as Domestic Slump Deepens
Massive Spike in Volatile Heavy Export Shipments Masks Structural Drag in High-Value Domestic Mass Transport.
VE Commercial Vehicles Limited posted an overall wholesale volume of 9,519 units in June 2026, up 29.3 percent from 7,363 units in June 2025. However, the headline growth figures filed with stock exchanges by parent company Eicher Motors Limited hide an acute deceleration in the manufacturer's premium domestic heavy-duty passenger business, alongside sharp contractions in underlying year-to-date tracking.
The company's domestic heavy-duty bus segment crashed by 26.7 percent during the month, with factory dispatches dropping to just 132 units compared to 180 units in June 2025. This structural weakness worsens significantly when analyzing year-to-date figures, where cumulative domestic heavy-duty bus sales have collapsed by 36.4 percent, falling to 306 units against 481 units in the prior fiscal period. This multi-month drop leaves the manufacturer heavily dependent on light and medium commercial vehicles to maintain localized momentum.
To balance out these heavy domestic deficits, the unlisted subsidiary relied on a dramatic but highly volatile surge in low-volume international shipping lines. Heavy-duty truck exports spiked by 384.2 percent during June, albeit on a low volume base, climbing to 92 units from a minor baseline of 19 units last year. Total export volumes across all classes finished up 41.6 percent at 674 units. While international bus exports rose 72.6 percent to 202 units for the month, the segment remains structurally negative for the year to date, tracking 24.8 percent lower at 270 units compared to 359 units over the identical timeframe last year.
Within the more stable domestic commercial divisions, Eicher's light and medium trucks grew 37.9 percent to 4,366 units, while heavy-duty domestic trucks rose 21.6 percent to 2,139 units. Domestic light and medium bus dispatches increased 21.1 percent to reach 1,958 units. Total domestic dispatches across the Eicher brand stood at 8,595 units, indicating an overall 27.9 percent expansion. Additionally, the premium Volvo Trucks and Buses division recorded sales of 250 units, up 51.5 percent from 165 units previously.
