Eeco sales surpass 10 lakh units at Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki Eeco has been on sale since 2010 and has received multiple updates since then.
Maruti Suzuki has announced that its popular Eeco MPV has found 10 lakh customers. The Maruti Suzuki Eeco has been on sale since 2010 and has received multiple updates since then.
The Eeco actually started its life in India as the Versa back in 2001. The MPV was then reintroduced as the Eeco with a lower entry price in 2010, and since then, there has been no looking back for the model.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco still remains a popular choice
The Eeco is Maruti’s entry-level MPV and has been a popular choice for many Indian buyers. The MPV was first sold with a 1.2-litre petrol engine in petrol as well as factory CNG powertrain options, equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. This powertrain was further updated as emissions norms became stringent over the years.
Maruti gave a major update to the Eeco recently by equipping the MPV with a more modern K-series 1.2-litre unit with Dual VVT, which also sees duty in other Maruti Suzuki models currently sold in India. Along with the new engine, the Eeco also received a new steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster similar to the Alto K10, S-Presso and the Celerio.
Maruti Suzuki claims that the updated Eeco delivers fuel efficiency of 19.71kpl in petrol-only mode, up from 16.11kpl achieved by the outgoing engine. Meanwhile, the S-CNG variants return a fuel efficiency of 26.78kg/km, up from 20.88kg/km. The Tour V variants benefit from a slightly increased fuel efficiency, where the petrol-only mode returns 20.20kpl and in CNG mode it delivers 27.05kg/km.
Maruti Suzuki Eeco: rivals
The Eeco is currently priced from Rs 5.22 lakh going up to Rs 6.51 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It does not even get a power-steering in any variant even in this day and age. Despite being as bare bones as it is, the MPV continues to be a popular choice in the segment and sees no direct rival. The Renault Triber is the only three-row MPV that comes close to it at this price point and size, but is better equipped and a more spacious alternative.
