Ducati India on Monday launched the Desmo450 MX, its first motocross motorcycle, marking the company's entry into India's off-road segment. Deliveries are scheduled to begin by the end of March 2026, with the motorcycle available at four dealerships — in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pune — at an ex-showroom price of ₹17,23,600. Bookings are currently open.

The Desmo450 MX is powered by a 449.6 cc single-cylinder engine featuring Ducati's Desmodromic valve distribution system, a technology the company claims is unique among motocross motorcycles. Desmodromic systems use a dedicated mechanism to both open and close engine valves, rather than relying on springs, allowing for more precise control at varying engine speeds. Ducati says the setup produces torque across a broad rpm range. The motorcycle also features a traction control system that, according to Ducati, measures rear wheel slip and intervenes only when needed — a first for the motocross category.

The frame is constructed from aluminium and designed with a reduced number of welds, which Ducati says improves structural rigidity while keeping weight down. The company developed and tested the platform on the MXGP World Championship circuit before adapting it for production.

Bipul Chandra, Managing Director at Ducati India, described the launch as a "landmark moment" for the brand in India, citing growing interest in off-road motorcycling in the country. He indicated the model was intended to attract both experienced riders and those new to motocross.

A range of optional accessories is available through the Ducati Performance catalogue, including machined wheel hubs, a titanium exhaust system from Akrapovič, and Brembo Racing brake calipers. A technical apparel line developed with Drudi Performance and Alpinestars will also accompany the motorcycle.

Ducati was founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1926, and is currently owned by the Volkswagen Group through its Audi subsidiary. The brand has a presence across road, track, and now off-road segments. The Desmo450 MX is described by the company as the first model in a new line of off-road motorcycles.
