The Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications, has entered into a strategic partnership with MapmyIndia (Mappls), a leading Indian provider of location technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and geospatial solutions. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Dak Bhawan in New Delhi, aims to support the development and adoption of DIGIPIN, India’s digital addressing initiative.
Under the agreement, MapmyIndia will supply base maps for integration into the Know Your DIGIPIN application, enabling more accurate generation of digital postal identifiers based on geographic coordinates. This integration is expected to improve location accuracy and user experience in identifying and sharing addresses digitally.
In addition, the DIGIPIN system will be incorporated into the Mappls mobile and web applications, allowing users to search for and navigate to addresses using their unique DIGIPIN codes. MapmyIndia will also assist in assigning DIGIPINs to existing addresses within its database, contributing to the standardization and scalability of digital addressing across the country.
The MoU was signed by senior representatives from both organizations in the presence of key officials. Speaking at the event, Shri Harpreet Singh, Member (Operations), Department of Posts, emphasized the importance of the collaboration in expanding the reach of DIGIPIN. “This partnership will enhance the accessibility and usability of DIGIPIN by leveraging advanced mapping technologies. It marks a step forward in building a robust, standardized digital addressing framework that supports efficient delivery of public and private services,” he said.
Shri Rakesh Verma, Co-founder and Chairman and Managing Director of MapmyIndia (Mappls), highlighted the significance of indigenous technological development. “We are pleased to collaborate with the Department of Posts in advancing a homegrown National Digital Addressing System. By integrating our APIs and SDKs with the DIGIPIN platform, we aim to enable developers, businesses, and government agencies to build innovative location-based services while ensuring seamless access for citizens through the Mappls ecosystem.”
The integration is expected to encourage wider adoption of DIGIPIN across sectors, including logistics, emergency services, urban planning, and e-commerce. It also supports the broader vision of ‘Address as a Service’ (AaaS), positioning standardized digital addresses as a foundational layer for digital governance and smart infrastructure.
With this collaboration, the Department of Posts and MapmyIndia seek to create an interoperable, scalable, and inclusive digital addressing ecosystem, aligned with India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital public infrastructure.
