Dana India advances road safety in Chakan through CSR Initiatives
Focused on accident-prone areas, Dana India's efforts include solar streetlights, safety signage, and upgraded infrastructure, benefiting thousands while aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for safety, sustainability, and community well-being.
Dana India has completed a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on enhancing road safety and infrastructure in accident-prone areas of Chakan, Pune. These efforts are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to promote community safety and sustainable development.
As part of the initiatives, Dana India installed 30 high-mast solar streetlights at Alandi Phata Chowk in Chakan to improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. This enhancement benefits approximately 3,600 villagers and travelers while addressing SDG Goal 7, which emphasizes affordable and clean energy, and Goal 13, related to climate action.
Additional measures included the implementation of road safety signage and the installation of metal barricades in Chakan's industrial area. These actions aim to regulate traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety, positively impacting around 2.5 lakh commuters daily. The project aligns with SDG Goal 11, focused on sustainable cities and communities, and Goal 17, which highlights partnerships for achieving the goals.
The company also installed road divider railings at critical locations such as Endurance Chowk to improve road visibility and safety for more than 3 lakh people. These efforts contribute to SDG Goal 3, which promotes good health and well-being, as well as Goal 15, which focuses on life on land.
Upgrades to street lighting in key areas of the Chakan Industrial Area and Endurance Chowk further enhanced nighttime safety for an estimated 3 lakh individuals. These improvements support SDG Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities and Goal 15 on life on land.
Dana India’s Country Head and Vice President, Gajanan Gandhe, stated that these initiatives underscore the company’s focus on improving road safety and sustainability in the Chakan region. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to fostering meaningful changes that enhance the quality of life for local communities while contributing to broader sustainability objectives.
