Cygni Energy, a Hyderabad-based energy storage solutions provider, has inaugurated the first phase of its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Gigafactory in Maheshwaram, Telangana. The facility is located within the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) and spans 160,000 square feet on a 5-acre campus. The initial production capacity of the plant stands at 4.8 GWh, aimed at supporting both grid-scale energy storage projects and electric vehicle applications.
The Gigafactory includes a fully automated assembly line equipped with Poka-Yoke-enabled stations and end-to-end traceability. It also features an Advanced Engineering Lab and a dedicated Battery Management System (BMS) Lab. According to the company, this is the first Indian facility qualified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.
The inauguration event was attended by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana and CEO of the Industry & Investment Cell in the Chief Minister's Office. Other notable attendees included Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman of IIIT-Hyderabad, and Srini Raju, Founder of iLabs Group.
Cygni Energy has invested over ₹100 crore in the first phase and plans to expand the facility’s capacity to 10.8 GWh by 2027, with an additional ₹150 crore earmarked for the second phase. This expansion is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the next two years.
The company has already secured an order pipeline of 1 GWh from BESS developers and automotive customers. So far, it has delivered 500 MWh of batteries for various power and energy applications.
The production line is designed to manufacture 105 kWh liquid-cooled base modules using advanced 314Ah cells. These modules will serve as the foundational units for energy storage containers. The Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software installed on the line offers real-time production tracking, data analytics, quality control, and traceability.
Cygni is also engaged in R&D initiatives at the facility, including work on sodium-ion energy storage, enhanced thermal management, and advanced Energy Management System (EMS) algorithms. The company is exploring Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) designs and is collaborating with IIT-Madras on supercapacitor technology.
