Cummins India Receives ₹95.26 Lakh Income Tax Penalty for AY 2018-19

Cummins India Limited said on September 29, 2026, that it received an order from the Assessment Unit (Faceless) of the Income Tax Department levying a penalty of Rs. 95,25,757 under Section 270A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, for assessment year 2018-19. 

The company received the order on September 29, 2026. It said it is evaluating appropriate legal remedies, including filing an appeal before the Appellate Authority. The company believes the order was passed without an adequate opportunity to present its submissions.

The penalty was imposed solely on account of an underlying adjustment made during the assessment proceedings, the company said.

Cummins India said the penalty has no material impact on its financials and no impact on its operations or other activity. The filing lists the reason for delay in intimation as not applicable.

Cummins India Limited, with its registered office in Pune, is a subsidiary of US-based Cummins Inc. The company designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines, generator sets and related power systems. Its engines power rail applications, including diesel electric multiple units, power cars and tower cars.
