Cooper Corporation, an engine and component manufacturer, launched its first tractor manufacturing facility in Satara, Maharashtra, on February 1, 2025. The company also introduced its NDC Series tractors, developed in collaboration with international firms including Ricardo UK, Magna Steyr, Carraro, and Mita.
Maharashtra Public Works Minister Ch. ShivendraRaje Bhosale inaugurated the facility, alongside Mahesh Shinde, Vice Chairman of Maharashtra Krushna Khore Vikas Mahamandal, and Clive Bagnall, Director of Global Product Development at Ricardo UK.
The NDC Series tractors feature a 4-valve engine with dual-clutch transmission and a 3-meter turning radius. Technical specifications include a Bosch fuel system, ceramic-coated rings, and a compacted graphite cylinder head. The tractors are designed for both farming operations and haulage tasks.
Farrokh N. Cooper, Chairman and Managing Director of Cooper Corporation, brings his background as an agriculture graduate and farmer to the venture. "This tractor is designed to enhance productivity, reduce operational costs and withstand farming conditions," Cooper said at the launch.
Cooper Corporation's entry into the agricultural machinery sector comes at a time when India's tractor market is seeing increased competition from both domestic and international manufacturers. The sector has been focusing on fuel efficiency and operational cost reduction to address farmer concerns about running costs.
The company, known for manufacturing engines and generators, has been operating from Satara and has established partnerships with several international engineering firms. This diversification into tractor manufacturing represents a significant expansion of Cooper Corporation's product portfolio.
The new manufacturing facility in Satara adds to Maharashtra's growing automotive manufacturing base, which has seen several companies establish production units in recent years.
