Continental to Announce New Automotive Company Name at Auto Shanghai 2025
The global technology company will showcase autonomous driving systems and light projection solutions while revealing its automotive spin-off identity during the international auto show.
Continental will announce the name of its future independent automotive company during Auto Shanghai 2025, where it will also debut several new technologies including intelligent driving systems and light projection solutions. The announcement will take place at a press conference with Philipp von Hirschheydt, Executive Board member responsible for the Group Sector Automotive, on April 23.
The company plans to showcase innovations in five focus areas: software-defined vehicle, autonomous, safe, exciting, and sustainable mobility solutions. Among the headlining debuts are the Luna and Astra intelligent driving systems, the Central Light Computer, and the In2Visible Overhead Console.
"Continental is continuously enhancing its local R&D competencies and innovation speed, tailoring technologies and solutions for the local market needs," said Enno Tang, President and CEO of Continental China. "We are aiming to boost China innovation to make mobility safe, exciting and autonomous."
The Luna system will provide entry-level intelligent driving capabilities, offering active safety features and assisted driving functions that meet regulations in various global markets. The more advanced Astra system supports Level 2++ driving functions across multiple scenarios, including urban Navigate on Autopilot capabilities in China's complex road environments.
Continental's lighting innovations include the Central Light Computer, which processes vehicle signals to control various light functions, and a laser-beam scanning projection system enabling 360-degree high-definition dynamic projections around vehicles.
The company is also building what it calls a "Road to Cloud" ecosystem for software-defined vehicles, based on hardware and software infrastructure for computing and networking. At the show, Continental will demonstrate an AD-Cockpit High-Performance Computer that integrates cluster, infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems on a single chip.
Safety technologies on display will include the Future Brake System, representing Continental's roadmap toward fully electro-mechanical braking that eliminates the need for brake fluid, and the next generation of its Integrated Brake-by-wire System, which reduces system weight by nearly 30 percent.
This year marks Continental's 30th anniversary in China, where it has established research and development centers in Shanghai, Wuhu, Nanjing, Changchun, and Chongqing, along with test centers in Yancheng and Heihe. The company has focused on strengthening its local R&D capabilities to respond quickly to Chinese market demands.
Continental's booth at Auto Shanghai will be located at #2BC009, Hall 2.2, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. The exhibition runs from April 23 to May 2, 2025.
Continental AG, founded in 1871 in Hanover, Germany, has evolved from a rubber manufacturer into one of the world's largest automotive suppliers. The planned spin-off of its automotive division represents one of the most significant restructuring efforts in the company's recent history, as it adapts to the rapidly changing mobility landscape dominated by electrification, automation, and connectivity trends.
