Citroen Basalt to be unveiled next month in production spec
Citroen Basalt to directly rival upcoming Tata Curvv.
The Citroen Basalt is all set to be unveiled in its production-ready avatar early next month. The manufacturing of the SUV-coupe commenced in June, while the launch is expected sometime after its global debut.
The Citroen Basalt’s fascia will be identical to the C3 Aircross on which it is based; only the grille inserts’ finish will be slightly different. The starkest change will be the sloping roofline. The Basalt will likely get a new set of alloy wheels. Its rear end will feature new tail-lamps, with a chunky dual-tone bumper.
Though the SUV-coupe’s cabin is yet to be revealed, its overall layout is expected to resemble that of the C3 Aircross SUV. That said, the equipment list will surpass the three-row SUV. The Basalt is likely to get a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, electrically folding wing mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, and keyless entry and go.
The Basalt will have the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross, making 110hp and 205Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic with standard front-wheel drive.
Citroen will position the Basalt above the C3 Aircross in its line-up. It could be priced from Rs 11 lakh-12 lakh onwards, making it slightly more expensive than the 7-seater SUV, which costs Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.11 lakh. Upon arrival, it will directly rival the upcoming Tata Curvv while also giving competition to midsize SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate.
