A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that it never uses subsidies for EVs which have been barred by the World Trade Organization, Reuters reported.

Chinese firms are making low priced electric vehicles which some believe will affect major US automakers, especially those who have recently focused on big gasoline powered SUVs, the newswire reported.

Ning further stated that China's new energy products including EVs are popular in the international market and were the result of the "combined efforts of comparative advantages and market laws."

The comments come against the backdrop of inquires by American President Joe Biden that China offers subsidies to flood the US market with EVs, a concern shared by other officials as well, Reuters noted.

Mao retorted that there was no question of flooding the US market, as last year, China exported only 13,000 electric vehicles to USA, the newswire further noted.

Biden has promised to increase tariffs on several products which includes quadrupling import duties on EVs to over 100%, and doubling duties on semiconductors to 50%, Reuters stated.
