Chandrasekar Krishnamurthy Appointed Global Director of Product Management at BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems has announced the appointment of Chandrasekar Krishnamurthy as the Global Director of Product Management, effective March 1, 2025.

With the company expanding its product portfolio in electrification and electronics, the new role is aimed at strengthening product management strategies to enhance cost efficiency, technical development, market readiness, and regulatory compliance.

In his new position, Krishnamurthy will be responsible for improving product industrialization readiness and working closely with various functions to develop competitive product platform solutions. He will also oversee the alignment of product roadmaps with strategic and sales objectives, ensuring timely delivery of compliant solutions. Additionally, he will focus on enhancing engineering efficiency, optimizing productivity, and strengthening product safety and security compliance across the engineering framework.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems’ leadership expects this appointment to contribute to the company’s ongoing efforts to refine its product management approach and adapt to evolving industry demands.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, a division of the American automotive supplier BorgWarner Inc., has expanded its operations in India to support its global electrification initiatives. In January 2023, the company inaugurated the India Propulsion Engineering Centre (IPEC) in Whitefield, Bengaluru. This 95,000-square-foot facility focuses on the development of electric propulsion systems, including inverters, DC-DC converters, on-board chargers, integrated drive modules, and battery management systems. The center also works on propulsion controllers for internal combustion engines and transmissions.

By the end of 2023, BorgWarner aimed to employ over 550 engineers at IPEC, up from the initial 320. The facility specializes in systems, software, and electronic hardware engineering, providing end-to-end development, testing, and validation support to BorgWarner’s engineering centers in North America, Europe, and Asia. The company leverages local software talent to enhance capabilities in functional safety and cybersecurity.

In July 2024, BorgWarner expanded IPEC by opening the High Voltage Propulsion Engineering Laboratory, an 11,600-square-foot facility designed to test electric propulsion systems such as high-voltage traction motors, inverters, and DC-DC converters. The lab supports a 350kW, 400–800V eDyno for integrated motor and inverter system testing and includes infrastructure for evaluating various vehicle electrification components. This addition enables the engineering team to develop innovative solutions and address product issues effectively.

These investments align with BorgWarner’s “Charging Forward” strategy, which aims to increase electric vehicle revenues to approximately 45% of the company’s sales by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. The Bengaluru facilities play a crucial role in advancing BorgWarner’s electrification efforts and supporting the company’s global platforms.
