BorgWarner has secured a contract with a major global automaker to supply its 400-volt high-voltage coolant heaters (HVCH) for a series of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) platforms, the company announced on May 7, 2025. The contract covers mid-size pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans, with production expected to begin in 2027, marking BorgWarner's largest HVCH PHEV contract in North America based on expected volumes.
The automotive technology supplier's 400V HVCH features a flexible and compact design that adapts to various vehicle environments without requiring platform modifications. The technology delivers high thermal power density through its brazed aluminum fin technology, with power capacity up to 10 kW.
"BorgWarner has been collaborating with this global OEM on a variety of projects and is looking forward to furthering our relationship by providing this efficient solution for battery and cabin heating," said Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies. The HVCH system provides reliable heating regardless of environmental temperature, warming both cabin and battery to support optimal conditions for faster charging, extended battery life, improved durability, enhanced performance, and increased driving range.
