BorgWarner said it has secured four new electric motor projects with three major Chinese automotive manufacturers. These projects involve supplying high-voltage hairpin (HVH) motors for hybrid and electric vehicle platforms.

The company will provide 400V HVH motors for a 200kW hybrid rear-drive platform of a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer. Production is scheduled to begin in August 2025. Another contract includes motors for a 150kW pure electric platform of a top Chinese OEM, with mass production set for March 2026. BorgWarner will also supply motors for next-generation range-extended and plug-in hybrid models of a third Chinese automaker, with production expected to start in August and October 2025.

BorgWarner has introduced Ultra-Short High-Voltage Hairpin (S-HVH) eMotor technology to enhance efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs. This innovation shortens end-turn lengths by over 5mm compared to traditional HVH windings, reducing motor size while increasing power density and lowering copper usage. The technology is compatible with existing production lines, simplifying factory upgrades.

Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, stated that the company remains focused on innovation and manufacturing improvements to meet the evolving needs of NEV customers.
