BMW Motorrad has launched the R 1300 GS in India at Rs 20.95 lakh, which is Rs 40,000 more than the outgoing R 1250 GS bike’s starting price.

The R 1300 GS is powered by a horizontally opposed, 1,300cc, twin-cylinder engine with a 13.3:1 compression ratio; the outgoing model had a 1,254cc mill. Peak output figures have increased to 145hp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6,500rpm from 134hp and 143Nm. With its 19-litre fuel tank fully brimmed, the R 1300 GS weighs 237kg, which is 12 kilos less than the venerable 1250, although it holds one litre less fuel.

Unlike international markets, where some R 1300 GS variants get alloy wheels or spoked rims, all bikes sold in India will have cross-spoked tubeless wheels as standard. Other standard features on all India-spec 1300 GS bikes will be the Comfort and Dynamic packages, which include an electronic windscreen, bidirectional quickshifter, centre stand, Pro riding modes, and a lot more.

Except for the base Light White model, the rest of the variants also come standard with the Touring package which includes the pannier mounts, chromed exhaust header pipes, adaptive headlight, knuckle guard extenders and mounting for the GPS device. In India, the Triple Black variant is the only one that can be equipped with the optional Adaptive Ride Height feature.

The range topping Option 719 Tramuntana is the only one that gets the radar-assisted safety features like Active Cruise Control and Front Collision Warning as well as an eye-catching Green/Yellow paint option, various milled metal components as well as radar assisted safety features. However as of now, this top model can’t be specced with the ARH feature.

The R 1300 GS lineup is quite complex and it’s worth visiting the configurator on BMW Motorrad’s Indian website to see in detail what is part of each pack and what other optional extras you can equip the new big GS with.

(All prices are ex-showroom, India)
