BMW Motorrad Launches M 1000 R Supersport Roadster in India at ₹33.5 Lakh

The motorcycle, available as a CBU import and powered by a 210 hp inline four-cylinder engine, goes on pre-order today with deliveries starting May 2026.

BMW Motorrad India launched the new M 1000 R supersport roadster in Gurugram on March 16, 2026. Priced at ₹33,50,000 (ex-showroom), the motorcycle is available as a completely built-up unit (CBU) and can be pre-ordered immediately at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships across the country. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from May 2026 onwards.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, described the motorcycle as a convergence of the brand's M performance philosophy and roadster practicality. "The new BMW M 1000 R is a powerful expression of our M genetics, where a high-performance superbike meets a dynamic roadster," he said, adding that the machine is aimed at riders who seek performance both on public roads and the racetrack.

Engine and Performance

The M 1000 R is powered by a water-cooled inline four-cylinder engine displacing 999 cc — the same basic architecture that underpins the M 1000 RR, BMW Motorrad's homologation-spec superbike built to compete in the Superbike World Championship. The engine produces 210 hp (154 kW) at 13,750 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 11,100 rpm. BMW claims a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h.

The engine uses BMW's ShiftCam variable valve timing technology, which adjusts valve timing and lift depending on engine speed to improve torque delivery across the rev range. Additional hardware includes titanium valves, revised exhaust-side spring assemblies, narrower and lighter cam followers, and optimised camshafts. The intake system uses shorter intake funnels to improve charge exchange at high engine speeds. Together, these changes are intended to provide stronger mid-range pull without sacrificing peak power output.

Chassis, Aerodynamics and Electronics

The M 1000 R carries over several aerodynamic and chassis elements from the RR superbike. M Winglets — carbon fibre aerodynamic fins mounted at the front — generate downforce during both upright riding and cornering. At 220 km/h, BMW says these winglets increase front-wheel load by 11 kg, improving stability at high speeds. Brake ducts are integrated into the front mudguards, which have been redesigned for better airflow around the fork legs and brake callipers.

The M Quick Action Throttle reduces the rotational angle required to reach full throttle, which BMW says allows for quicker acceleration inputs and reduces wrist fatigue over longer rides. The rear frame and swingarm are finished in Platinum Grey metallic across all colour variants.

On the electronics front, the motorcycle is equipped with seven riding modes: Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race, and Race Pro 1 through 3. A revised Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) system, whose control strategy has been carried over from the M 1000 RR, works alongside the M Quick Action Throttle to provide more precise intervention, particularly in Race mode during track use. The DTC also includes a wheelie control function via a 6-axis sensor box. Pro Modes unlock Launch Control and a pit-lane speed limiter.

Features and Equipment

The instrument cluster is a 6.5-inch TFT display with an M logo start-up animation, a revised rev counter display and an OBD interface for connecting the optional M GPS Datalogger and M GPS Laptrigger accessories. Standard equipment includes adaptive turning lights, electronic cruise control, heated grips, a lightweight M battery and a rear USB charging socket.

The standard motorcycle is available in two colour schemes: Light White non-metallic/M Motorsport and White Aluminum metallic matt. An optional M Competition Package, available in Blackstorm metallic/M Motorsport or White Aluminum metallic matt, adds a significant list of performance and aesthetic upgrades. These include M Carbon wheels with a clear lacquer coat that highlights the carbon fibre structure, an M GPS Laptrigger, carbon fibre components such as a rear wheel cover, chain guard, front wheel cover, tank covers, airbox cover, wind deflector and sprocket cover, as well as a fully adjustable milled M rider footrest system and the M pillion package.

All BMW Motorrad vehicles sold in India carry a standard three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. Owners have the option to extend this to a fourth and fifth year. A 24x7, 365-day Roadside Assistance package is included, covering breakdowns and towing. BMW India Financial Services offers financing plans for both the motorcycle and riding gear and accessories.

The M 1000 R occupies the top tier of BMW Motorrad's roadster lineup and is positioned in India's fast-growing premium and superbike segment. The segment has seen considerable activity in recent years, with manufacturers including Ducati, Aprilia, KTM and Triumph expanding their India portfolios through both CBU imports and local assembly. BMW Motorrad itself has grown its India presence steadily, offering a range of motorcycles from the entry-level G 310 R to flagship models like the S 1000 RR and the R 1300 GS. At ₹33.5 lakh ex-showroom, the M 1000 R is among the most expensive motorcycles in the brand's India lineup and competes broadly against the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and the Aprilia Tuono V4.
