BMW Motorrad India Launches New S 1000 R Roadster at ₹19.90 Lakh

The motorcycle will be available as a completely built-up unit (CBU) with an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹19.90 lakh. The pricing excludes road tax, RTO statutory taxes and fees, other local taxes, and insurance.

Performance and Specifications

The new S 1000 R features a 999cc oil and water-cooled four-cylinder four-stroke inline engine that produces 170 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 114 Nm of maximum torque at 9,250 rpm. This represents a 5 hp increase over the previous model. The motorcycle can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

BMW Motorrad has enhanced the engine's torque curve to provide improved rideability across a wider speed range. The motorcycle also offers an optional M Endurance chain with short secondary gear ratio designed for reduced maintenance requirements.

Standard Features and Technology

The S 1000 R comes equipped with several standard features including LED headlight with daytime running lights, M Quick action throttle, Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR), and multiple riding modes covering Rain, Road, and Dynamic settings with Hill Start Control.

The motorcycle includes a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity features, USB charging socket, full LED lighting, and a six-axis sensor box that incorporates ABS Pro and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). The display can connect with the BMW Motorrad Connectivity App for navigation and route guidance functions.

Color Options and Packages

The S 1000 R is available in three color schemes: Blackstorm Metallic as the base option, Bluefire/Mugiallo Yellow available with the Style Sport package, and Lightwhite Uni/M Motorsport exclusively offered with the M package.

Optional equipment packages include the Dynamic Package featuring Dynamic Damping Control and Pro riding modes, the Comfort Package with keyless ride and heated grips, and the M Sport Package with specialized components including M forged wheels and sports silencer.

The new model features revised styling elements including integrated turn signals and license plate lights at the rear, with brake and taillight functions incorporated into the turn indicator units. The motorcycle maintains the characteristic split-face LED headlight design with daytime running lights and R logo.

Warranty and Services

All BMW Motorrad vehicles in India come with a three-year unlimited kilometer warranty, with options to extend coverage to the fourth and fifth years. The company also provides 24x7 roadside assistance coverage for breakdown and towing situations.

BMW India Financial Services offers financing options for the motorcycle, including coverage for rider gear and accessories purchases.

The launch comes as BMW continues to expand its premium motorcycle presence in India, targeting enthusiasts seeking high-performance roadster motorcycles. The S 1000 R positions itself in the premium naked bike segment, competing with other European and Japanese offerings in the Indian market.
